Vietnamese Fruits and Vegetables Aim for 10 Billion USD in Exports

Vietnam expects to achieve a revenue of 8-10 billion USD from exporting fruits and vegetables to foreign markets, with processed product revenue at least 30% by 2030.
Recently, the Prime Minister approved the project to develop the fruit and vegetable processing industry for the period 2021-2030 with the goal of reaching an export value of 8-10 billion USD by 2030. Among them, the proportion of export value of processed fruit and vegetable products will reach 30% or more; the processing capacity of fruits and vegetables will reach 2 million tons of products/year, nearly doubling compared to 2020.
On the other hand, the project also aims to attract investment in 50-60 new large and medium-sized fruit and vegetable processing facilities by 2030; to build and successfully develop several modern fruit and vegetable processing corporations and enterprises on par with the region and the world with high international competitiveness.
The sector also focuses on strongly attracting investment to ensure that in concentrated fruit and vegetable production areas, production cooperatives, and at large collection facilities and agents, investment in machinery, equipment, preliminary processing workshops, packaging, and cold storage is made on an appropriate scale, thereby forming a system of synchronized preliminary processing and packaging facilities. In addition, the agriculture sector will promote deep processing, diversify products from fruit and vegetable raw materials and from by-products after processing, striving for an average annual value-added growth rate of over 10% during the 2021-2030 period; to build and form specialized fruit and vegetable production areas to ensure the supply of quality and food-safe raw materials (about 5-6 million tons by 2030) for processing activities…./ Source: vietnamplus
